"I support reducing the number of municipalities in the Capital Region, and will be voting YES to the non-binding referendum question on the Victoria election ballot on November 15. Andrew Reeve "Having served on the board of Amalgamation Yes, I've studied amalgamation, written about amalgamation, and campaigned for amalgamation. Reducing the number of municipalities from 13 simply makes sense. 13 Kingdoms, each with its own government, in such a small area has resulted in a fractured region where politics gets put before the people. If municipalities spoke of cooperation and integration with genuine intentions rather than simply as a political talking point there would be no great need for amalgamation. However, the refusal to "play ball" with one another in any meaningful fashion has resulted in a region composed of inward-facing municipal governments with little regard for the region as a whole. In the era of globalization it is comical, bordering on sad, to continue to define ourselves by city limits. It is one thing not to take a global or national perspective, but to ignore one's own region for the sake of petty politics and selfish motives is ridiculous. Until amalgamation is achieved, preferably the 3 city model, we must strive towards closer inter-municipal cooperation and service integration for the benefit of all." - Andrew J. Reeve, July 15th, 2014
