Time to get on with governance review

Re: “Atwell’s spy-software complaint valid,” March 31.
I voted for Richard Atwell and the new candidates for council because I felt it was high time for change in Saanich, which has a plethora of problems that are seldom acknowledged.
The privacy commissioner’s report has clearly articulated how severe and deep the problems are in Saanich in terms of understanding privacy rights, whether those of staff, elected officials or the public.
I would also have expected Les Leyne to be a bit more skeptical about the reason for the installation of the spyware. If you are trying to impress the boss, you let him know what you have done. I think many of us will have drawn our own conclusions as to the probable reasons for installation, especially when looking at the timeline so clearly laid out in the report.
I would hope that council would finally get on with allowing the mayor to set up the public committee for governance review that 88 per cent of us voted for so that we can start formally identifying and making recommendations for change in some of the other areas of concern.
