Saanich should allow vote on amalgamation
Times Colonist, April 5, 2014
I find it interesting that Saanich, where I live and vote, is entrenched in an attitude of isolation and protectionism, evidenced by the refusal to entertain a non-binding question about amalgamation on the upcoming municipal ballot.
There are enough stories of inefficiencies across the region, the cost of administration and the lack of accountability and transparency enjoyed by the Capital Regional District to generate a groundswell of public opinion asking for a discussion on the topic of regional amalgamation.
Has Saanich decided to ignore its citizens and the basic principles of democracy?
