Question should be on amalgamation study

Re: “Don’t be afraid of merger vote,” editorial, Sept. 10.
My problem is with the question the Amalgamated Yes group has come up with: “Are you in favour of reducing the number of municipalities in the Capital Regional District through amalgamation?”
There is no hint of “an exploration of possibilities” in this. If we are actually being asked to support a serious study and investigation of the benefits and costs of various amalgamation possibilities, then that is how the question should be worded.
I do agree that the Capital Regional District has shown itself to be dysfunctional in many ways. But I can’t just give carte blanche support for change. I can support a serious examination of possibilities (including, of course, some very careful thought about how any new municipal council should be elected).
