Amalgamation Yes Congratulates City of Victoria Council for considering a motion to put the amalgamation question on the November 2014 municipal ballot.
Councilor Marianne Alto has proposed a motion at the City of Victoria’s Committee of the Whole on November the 4th, 2013 to place an amalgamation question on the municipal ballot in November 2014.
The motion proposes
Amalgamation discussions have existed in this area since 1906 when Oak Bay and the City of Victoria explored the issue.
John Vickers spokesperson for Amalgamation Yes said, "We are extremely pleased that the City of Victoria is considering putting the issue of reducing regional governance on the November 2014 municipal ballot. They are the second municipality to indicate a willingness to put a question on the ballot and we hope further municipalities will follow and allow their citizens to express whether there is willingness for a further discussion.”
Amalgamation Yes has requested to make a presentation on reduction in regional governance to the City of Victoria Council on November 7th, 2013. Amalgamation Yes is a grass roots movement whose members seek to explore amalgamation options with the Greater Victoria region.

The motion proposes
- a non-binding question “Are you in favour of reducing the number of Municipalities in Greater Victoria through amalgamation?
- the City of Victoria request the CRD consider asking each of its member municipalities to place a similar question on each of their municipal ballots in November 2014
- the City of Victoria advise the Province of its intent to place the question on the Victoria municipal ballot in November 2014
