Nothing to lose with amalgamation poll

Re: “B.C. asked to force poll on merging,” June 15.
The article notes that the mayors of Oak Bay, etc., have said they are not planning on a referendum as they say their constituents hadn’t expressed interest in the issue.
This is not true, as I live in Oak Bay. I have attempted to have a conversation with Mayor Nils Jensen and councillors Pam Copley and John Herbert on the subject of amalgamation when I attended a community workshop on updating Oak Bay’s community plan.
I attempted to bring up the subject of amalgamation, or at least merging police services, and I was told this was not an issue that was relevant to the community plan. In other words, the community plan will not contemplate the rationalization of any regional services.
I do not think I am alone. Let us have a poll on the issue such as the Amalgamation Yes group is proposing. Nothing to lose, except the possible loss of complacency that this is not an issue of interest.
