Experience shows most amalgamations work

Proclamations by those who claim amalgamations never work are incorrect. A review of amalgamations in B.C. and across Western Canada shows most worked well.
How many voters in amalgamated communities across Canada would vote to de-amalgamate if given the chance? Nanaimo wouldn’t and neither would the vast majority of other amalgamated communities from coast to coast, because the advantages are just too significant. It is my understanding there have been only one or two de-amalgamations in the entire western world in the past couple of years
As surveyed by Angus Reid last fall, just 10 per cent of capital region residents believe our current municipal structure makes sense.
Until the province undertakes a study, my advice to people is ignore all supposed experts who claim amalgamation won’t work at whatever level. Don’t believe them for a second.
