Don’t leave Oak Bay out of amalgamation study

As a resident of Oak Bay for 36 years, born in Victoria like my father, I am dismayed that Oak Bay is the only municipality that did not pass a referendum supporting the concept of amalgamation. The question on the ballot was “Are you in favour of the District of Oak Bay being amalgamated into a larger regional municipality?”
“What a stupid question!” I said, and my three-year-old granddaughter piped up: “Grandma, stupid is not a nice word.” In spite of the wording of the question, I voted yes. It was the only way I could tell the Oak Bay council that I believe Oak Bay residents, like all residents of the capital region, need to explore what would be the best way to organize services.
I live in Oak Bay and use the services and roads of all capital region municipalities. I believe if Oak Bay had given us a better question, even more voters would have voted yes. I am happy that the government will be doing the study.
Please don’t leave Oak Bay residents out of this discussion because we were asked to respond to a “stupid” question (and yes, I know it isn’t a nice word).
