Do careful research on amalgamation

Re: “Experience shows most amalgamations work,” letter, June 5.
The letter-writer says: “My advice to people is ignore all supposed experts who claim amalgamation won’t work at whatever level. Don’t believe them for a second.”
What is he saying? Is he the only one we are to believe? Don’t let any facts get in the way of my goal of amalgamation?
He also wonders how many amalgamated communities across Canada would vote to de-amalgamate. How can they? Once it is done, it is done. The money has been spent, the systems destroyed, the stationery changed, the new buildings built.
I think we have to be very careful if we are to consider any type of amalgamation. We should research both sides carefully before we jump into something we cannot get out of. It might be that some amalgamated communities would like to de-amalgamate. It is just that they can’t.
