BC Government Capital Integrated Services and Governance Initiative survey
December 4, 2016
The BC Government Capital Integrated Services and Governance Initiative (CISGI) project has recently published documents and a survey for public input. The project team identifed this as one further step in a study for the Province. The published information is clear that it focuses on integration and is not an amalgamation study.
The Board of Amalgamation Yes has reviewed the documents and the survey. Our view is that the survey is very limited in scope, can hardly be a substitute for robust public consultation, and is prejudicial in the way the questions are formed.
Furthermore, there are serious errors in the Fact Sheets, and we are in the process of preparing extensive comments back to the Province. Once completed, those comments will be communicated widely.
The City of Victoria December 2, 2016 media release also expressed deep concerns regarding errors in the survey data.
To view and participate in this limited survey and consultation, it is available at Placespeak.com.
We also ask that any errors or discrepancies that readers find in the survey material be communicated to Peter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, as well as to Amalgamation Yes.
Amalgamation Yes has written to the Minister expressing our concern that he is not proceeding with a complete and thorough amalgamation study as supported by 75% of those who had an opportunity to vote on a question in the 2014 election.
Also, poll after poll confirms support on this issue. Just recently a new poll of Victoria and Saanich sponsored by the Times Colonist reaffirmed that support, with 76% in Victoria and 71% in Saanich in favour of an amalgamation study.
