Amalgamation talks not likely to happen soon

Re: “ ‘Fiefdoms’ hurt capital: Harcourt,” April 23.
Well, those of us opposed to amalgamation for our communities can relax a bit.
If the greatest babble of the season can draw only 200 fellow travellers to hear disgraced former premier and tired old socialist Mike Harcourt prattle about “guided democracy,” we’re not going to see any gathering of the councils in the near future.
We can expect to see CUPE next on the bandwagon, however. Amalgamation “Yup” might not have good research, but the union that never stops asking has seen the results, where every major amalgamation of municipalities in this country has resulted in increased government hiring.
