FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: (August 29th, 2013)
Amalgamation Yes: Petition and Public Outreach
Amalgamation Yes is seeking public participation on a petition to place the amalgamation question on the November 2014 municipal election in all municipalities and townships in the Capital Regional District.
Amalgamation Yes will have a booth at the Saanich fair, August 31st to September 2nd and the Luxton Fall Fair, September 13, 14 and 15th, and will be at various local fairs and farmers markets to give the public an opportunity to sign a petition calling for the amalgamation vote.
The petition can be accessed online: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/amalgamationyes/.
The Petition states “We, the signatories below, request that Council of each municipality or township place the following non-binding question on the 2014 Municipal Election Ballot. Are you in favour of reducing the number of municipalities in the Capital Regional District through amalgamation? (A positive result would motivate the Province of BC to commission an expert study to compare various municipal amalgamation models against the status quo and trigger community engagement about how we wish to be governed.)”
John Vickers spokesperson for AmalgamationYes said, “AmalgamationYes has been working diligently to bring the amalgamation question to the attention of the public and politicians. We have heard from many individuals that they want the question on the 2014 ballot. This will give them an opportunity to express their view.”
